NSE had informed on November 8 that the stock market will remain closed on the occasion of Maharashtra Assembly elections. It had issued a notification stating that the exchange will remain closed on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 due to Maharashtra Assembly elections. There will be no trading on this day. There will be no trading in equity, equity derivatives and SLB segments on BSE and NSE. Trading will also be closed in the currency derivatives segment.

The Indian stock market will be closed on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Apart from the weekly holiday on Saturday-Sunday, the stock market remains closed only on festivals or some other special occasions. Talking about Wednesday’s holiday, voting will be held for the Maharashtra Assembly elections on this day. Since most of the work related to the stock market is done from Mumbai, so on this day there will be no work in both BSE and NSE.

Both the exchanges have also given official information about this. There will also be no trading on the currency market and commodity exchange. This means that the prices of currency and gold and silver will also not be updated.

Maharashtra Assembly Elections and Results

Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held on November 20. Voting will be held on 288 seats of the state on this day. For this, the election campaign ended late evening on Monday (18 November 2024). Banks and schools will also remain closed in Maharashtra on the day of polling. Counting of votes for Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held on November 23 and the results will also come on the same day.

NSE issued notification
NSE had informed about the closure of the stock market on the occasion of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on November 8. It had issued a notification. It said that the exchange will remain closed on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 due to Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. There will be no trading on this day.

There will be no trading in equity, equity derivatives and SLB segments on BSE and NSE. Trading will also be closed in the currency derivatives segment. Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed between 9 am and 5 pm.

How many days will the market remain closed in November?

After the Maharashtra assembly election holiday, there will be no other holiday in the stock market during November. The stock market will now remain closed only on the weekly holidays of Saturday and Sunday in November. There were a total of 3 days of holiday in the stock market in November.

There was a Diwali holiday on November 1. The stock market was open for Muhurat trading in the evening. During this time, trading took place for only 1 hour. After this, the stock market was closed on November 15 on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Now the stock market will remain closed on November 20.
