Prahlad Joshi posted on social media platform X on Thursday and said that he has ordered the Central Consumer Protection Authority to investigate this.
It is known that a few months ago, a complaint was received that online taxi booking platforms like Ola and Uber are adopting mobile phone model based differential pricing. Under this, a higher fare is charged for booking from Apple mobile phone to go from one place to another. At the same time, a lower fare is charged for booking from Android based mobile phone.
Uber rejected the allegations
In view of the investigation initiated by the CCPA, Uber has rejected such allegations. According to the report of Money Control, they do not have any such pricing model in which the price of the ride is decided based on the user’s phone model. Uber spokesperson told Reuters that they are working with CCPA to clear the confusion about phone model based pricing.
They do not have any system to fix fares based on the manufacturer of the user’s phone. The Union Minister has posted that he has also asked for investigation of complaints about food delivery and online ticket booking portals adopting differential pricing strategies.
