Mumbai Power Tariff 2024 : Residents of Mumbai got electric shock, bill is going to increase from this date

The people of Mumbai, which is known as the financial capital of the country, is going to get a big shock. Electricity is going to become expensive in Mumbai in the coming days, after which Mumbaikars will have to pay higher electricity bills every month. The regulator has approved the increase in electricity rates.

Bill will increase after one month
According to a report by CNBAC TV18, electricity rates are going to be 24 percent costlier for Mumbaikars. For this, Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission on Thursday gave approval to Tata Power to increase the electricity rates by an average of about 24 percent. This approval for increase in electricity rates is for the financial year 2024-25. This means that the burden of expensive electricity is going to fall on the people of Mumbai from April 1, 2024.

Tata Power had made this demand
Tata Power supplies electricity to millions of homes and offices in Mumbai. Tata Group’s electricity distribution company had demanded increase in electricity rates to recover the dues. Tata Power had said that it is trying to recover arrears of Rs 927 crore. Tata Power had demanded an increase of about 12 percent in electricity rates, but the regulator has approved an increase of 24 percent.

Due to this there was a need to increase
The report quoted Maharashtra’s electricity regulator as saying – The tariff was kept unchanged in the MTR order given for the financial year 2023-24. Due to this a situation of under-recovery had arisen. For this reason there is a need to increase the tariff now. The regulator has explained in the order why it has approved a 24 percent increase in electricity rates in one go. He said that if the tariff had not been kept constant last time, there would have been a need to increase only 13 percent this time.

Small customers will be most affected
This change in electricity rates is going to have the biggest impact on small customers. For those customers who are currently using less than 100 units of electricity, the bill is going to increase the most. Currently they have to pay electricity at the rate of Rs 1.65 per unit (kWh). Tata Power has proposed to increase the rate for such customers to Rs 4.96 per unit. People with consumption of 500 units or more can get relief, because for such customers there is a proposal to reduce the rate from Rs 8.35 per unit to Rs 7.94 per unit.
