Uday Samant, a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government, said that as soon as the code of conduct ends after the completion of the ‘Teacher Legislative Council Elections’ being held in the state, the government will bring a policy in this regard.
After the tragic incident of falling of hoarding, the Maharashtra government has finally announced to bring a new policy in this regard. Uday Samant, a cabinet minister in the Eknath Shinde government, shared information related to bringing a new policy during the discussion in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday.
According to news agency PTI, on Monday, there was a discussion in the House on the issue that hoardings are being put up illegally in Mumbai Metropolitan, ignoring the rules. Due to this negligence, just two months ago, 17 people lost their lives when a hoarding fell in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai.
What did the minister say?
Cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government, Uday Samant, said that as soon as the code of conduct ends after the completion of the ‘Teacher Legislative Council Election’ in the state, the government will bring a policy in this regard. He further said that the hoarding that fell in Ghatkopar on May 13 is being investigated by a committee constituted under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Dilip Bhosale.
Apart from this, Samant today assured that the decisions taken by the previous government regarding the hoardings put up during the pandemic will also be investigated by this committee. Earlier also Uday Samant had said that no permission was taken from anyone to put up hoardings in Ghatkopar and out of the 1025 hoardings put up in Mumbai, 306 are on railway land.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam alleged
that Bhavesh Bhide (whose company had put up the hoarding) had a picture with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, so his role should also be investigated. Another BJP MLA Ashish Shelar has demanded an investigation into all the hoardings put up in Mumbai since the time of Covid-19, and also alleged that hoarding owners have been given a 50 percent discount on licenses.
Shelar further said that ‘at that time it was the Uddhav Thackeray-led government that had secretly contacted hoarding owners and given them a 50 per cent discount on licenses which should be investigated. He further said that according to an IIT report, drivers also face inconvenience due to the bright light of LED hoardings, will this be seriously considered?
Permission to install LEDs on these hoardings was given during the pandemic. Apart from this, BJP leaders have said that there are 1025 big hoardings in Mumbai, out of which 179 are on railway land and these hoardings have been installed without the permission of BMC.
