A resident of Kharghar in Maharashtra’s Raigad district was duped of Rs 46 lakh by promising high returns on investment. A case was registered against five people for this. Meanwhile, a woman died when the wall and ceiling of a chawl room collapsed in Thane’s Bhiwandi.

A 34-year-old man from Kharghar lodged a complaint with the police about a fraud of Rs 46 lakh. The victim works in a company in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. He complained that he was contacted by the accused between February 2024 and April 2024.

He told that the accused talked to him on mobile only, so the accused can be identified only by their mobile numbers. The accused lured him to participate in online trading and assured good returns. They provided him WhatsApp groups and various links on the promise of helping him in investment and trading. During this time, with the help of fraudsters, the victim spent Rs 46.23 lakh in investment and trading. After a few days, when the victim checked his account, he saw that he had got good returns. But the investment and earnings were not returned. After this, he tried a lot to contact the accused. Officials said that after realizing that he was cheated, the victim lodged a complaint. He said that the crime is under investigation.

On the other hand, an official of Kharghar police station said that on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim, the police on Thursday registered an FIR against five accused under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 419 (cheating by impersonation) along with section 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as relevant sections of the IT Act.

The wall and ceiling of a chawl room collapsed in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra. A 35-year-old man died due to the roof collapse. Police said that this incident happened after heavy rains on Friday.

A 35-year-old man lived in a room in Narpoli, Bhiwandi. He was originally a resident of Sitamarhi in Bihar. At around 12 noon, part of the ceiling and wall of his room collapsed. He got buried under it. People nearby pulled him out of the debris. The police officer said that he was declared dead in the hospital. The deceased has been identified as Vimal Vishesar Shah. His body has been sent for post-mortem. A case of accidental death has been registered.
