The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to build a new highway between Mumbai and Goa. This highway will be known as the Konkan Expressway. The distance between Mumbai and Goa is 523 km. With the new highway connecting Mumbai to Goa, it will be possible to complete the journey from Mumbai to Goa in just six hours. Currently, this journey takes 12 to 15 hours.
The 498 km long Konkan Expressway will pass through Konkan. This highway will pass through 17 talukas. There will be 14 interchanges along the entire route. Along with this, there will be 871 small and big bridges, tunnels, FOBs, viaducts, underpasses and other infrastructure facilities.
This expressway passes through many villages in three major districts. Which include Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The Konkan Expressway will connect many villages. Which include major cities and towns. The villages of Mangaon, Panvel, Pen, Nagothane, Kolad, Indapur, Mahad, Poladpur, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Sangeshwar will get expressway connectivity.
The villages of Mapusa, Pernem, Madgaon, Panaji Kankolim and Canacona in Goa will be connected by this Konkan Expressway. The work of this highway is going on at a fast pace and is 95 percent complete. The work of this highway is expected to be completed by June 2025. The work of this Konkan Expressway has been going on since 2011. There are 41 tunnels and 21 bridges on this 498 km long route.
