Vivek Phansalkar gets the command of Maharashtra Police, Rashmi Shukla's path is not easy

Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar will work as the acting DG until the new DG is appointed. At the same time, the matter of making DG rank Maharashtra cadre senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla as DG has been postponed again for some reason.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has been given additional charge of Maharashtra Police DG. With this it has become clear that Rashmi Shukla’s path to becoming DG is not easy. There has been brainstorming on the DG since September. Vivek Phansalkar will work as acting DG until a new DG is appointed. At the same time, the matter of making DG rank Maharashtra cadre senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla DG has been postponed again for some reason.

Rashmi Shukla was surrounded by controversies after the phone tapping case came to light, but after getting a clean chit from the Shinde government, it was expected that she would return to her cadre.

Although her appointment to the post of Commissioner was discussed for a long time, but later Rashmi became the main contender for the post of DG. Today, on 31 December, DG Rajneesh Kumar retired, after which Rashmi Shukla’s order was expected today, but even today no such order came, instead Vivek Phansalkar, who is the Commissioner of Police of Mumbai, was given additional charge.

Rashmi Shukla’s path is not easy
Rashmi is currently on deputation to the Center. There is a discussion in the bureaucracy of Maharashtra that if Shukla is not appointed as DGP by December 31, then her path to becoming DGP is difficult.

In October, the name of 1988 batch IPS officer Rashmi Shukla came up as the new DGP of Maharashtra. For this, the government had sent Rashmi Shukla’s name to the Union Public Service Commission in September itself. The list of Director General of Police and Additional Director General level officers who have completed 30 years of service and the full details of the service period of each were sent to the Commission by the Home Department.

Shukla is at the first position in the seniority order and is a 1988 batch IPS officer. During the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, he was accused of tapping the telephones of some leaders. Two cases were registered against him

Vivek Phansalkar became acting DG
Shukla will also retire on June 30, 2024, but by then the Lok Sabha elections would have been over. Her appointment can be very beneficial for BJP in terms of Lok Sabha elections. Shukla is also considered close to Fadnavis, but now if his appointment has been postponed, then the path to the post of Director General seems difficult.

At the same time, Vivek Phansalkar’s path to becoming full-time DG is also difficult, because he is also retiring on March 31. Apart from this, IPS Sandeep Bishnoi is also retiring on March 31. In such a situation, if both of them go to this post, then their tenure will end before the Lok Sabha elections, while Jaijit Singh has recently been made DG ACB, he is also much junior to Rashmi. Now the question is who will be the new DG if not Rashmi?

IAS Nitin Kareer became the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra

On the other hand, 1988 batch IAS Nitin Kareer became the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. He is currently the Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department. Nitin Kareer took over the charge from Chief Secretary Manoj Saunik this evening. Manoj Saunik retired today. Nitin Kareer has been appointed as the 44th Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.

1988 batch IAS officer Nitin Kareer today took over as Chief Secretary from outgoing CS IAS Manoj Saunik. In his illustrious career spanning decades, Kareer has held key positions in the Maharashtra government. He was the Collector of Sangli district from 1997-2000 and Inspector General of Registration from 2000-2004.
