Till 2018, the President’s salary was less, but today it has increased to Rs 5 lakh per month.
President’s salary
In 2018, the salary of the President of India, the supreme commander of the three armies, was increased from ₹ 1.50 lakh per month to ₹ 5 lakh per month.
This increase was announced by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his budget speech. He had told that the salary of the Indian President was last revised from January 2006. So today the President of India gets Rs 5 lakh per month.
Facilities available to the President
According to a statement issued by the Home Ministry, the President can travel free of cost by air, rail or steamer anywhere in the country. They can bring one person with them, whose expenses will be borne.
The President will also get free medical services and care. Apart from this, a furnished rent-free house, two free landlines (one for internet connectivity), one mobile phone, five personal staff are provided. The cost of maintenance of the house is also borne.
The President gets a pension of Rs 1.5 lakh on retirement. If the President dies while in office, the spouse is given a family pension for the rest of his life at the rate of fifty percent of the pension received by the retired President. The fellow spouse also gets free medical services for life.
