With the arrival of monsoon, heavy rains have started in Mumbai and other districts of Maharashtra, due to which a part of the road collapsed in Palghar district of Maharashtra and traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was disrupted for more than four hours on Sunday morning. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Mumbai this whole week.

Monsoon has entered Mumbai and other districts of Maharashtra. Due to heavy rains, the road on the highway from Mumbai to Ahmedabad caved in and traffic got affected, due to which passengers are facing a lot of trouble. Mumbai and its neighbouring areas received heavy rains in the last 24 hours, which brought down the mercury and gave relief to the residents from the hot and humid weather.

Due to heavy rains, a portion of the road caved in in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, blocking traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway for over four hours on Sunday morning. A police control room official said that when a portion of the road caved in in Palghar’s Maljipada area due to heavy rains, repair work, including of a pipeline, was underway, due to which traffic came to a standstill and movement was disrupted on both sides of the road. On the other hand, people stuck in the traffic jam say that the administration is not solving their problem.

With the arrival of monsoon in Mumbai, heavy rains have started. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Mumbai till June 11. According to IMD, the maximum temperature of Mumbai can remain between 29 to 32 degrees Celsius this whole week and the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 25 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Many other districts of Maharashtra including Thane, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahmednagar, Satara and Jalgaon have also received good rain in the last one day. At the same time, Mumbai has received more than 60 mm of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Colaba Observatory in south Mumbai, where most of the state government’s administrative offices are located, recorded 67 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz Observatory, located near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, recorded 64 mm of rain.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius at the Colaba Observatory, which is 1.1 degrees above normal. While the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.3 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees below normal. The fall in minimum temperature indicates cold nights.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.4 degrees Celsius at the Santacruz Observatory, which is 1.6 degrees above normal. While the minimum temperature was 25.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.9 degrees below normal. According to the IMD report, some agriculturally important districts like Satara recorded 91 mm of rain in the last one day, Nashik 64 mm, Ahmednagar 57 mm, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 51 mm and Jalgaon 41 mm.

Officials said that Thane and Palghar districts also received heavy rains overnight, leading to waterlogging in some areas. They said that there were also reports of tree branches falling in some areas of Thane city. Thane city received 37.06 mm of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday. Yasin Tadvi, head of the disaster management cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, said that maximum 16.76 mm of rain was recorded on Sunday between 12.30 and 1.30 am. While 10.93 mm of rain occurred between 3.30 and 4.30 am.
