Lok Sabha Election 2024: Days after the Lok Sabha election schedule was announced, a surveillance squad has seized cash worth over Rs 72 lakh from a car in Mumbai suburb Ghatkopar. A police officer gave this information on Wednesday. The officer said that two people traveling in the car were detained and were let go after questioning. According to him, one of the two was calling himself a Chartered Accountant (CA).

According to Pantnagar police station official, two people traveling in the car were detained by the police and during interrogation they revealed that the money recovered on Tuesday night belonged to a Navi Mumbai-based ‘realty developer’. He said that the Income Tax (I-T) department has been involved in the investigation.

According to HT, according to the police, the flying squad of the Election Commission was checking vehicles along with policemen in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and a vehicle parked near Neelyog Square Mall in Ghatkopar East became suspicious.

The officer said the two persons present in the car were identified as Dilip Nathani and Atul Nathani, both of whom claimed that they were government auditors and the auditing work was related to a businessman who was into real estate business in Navi Mumbai.

He also claimed that this amount was given to him for accounting purposes. Rajesh Kewale, senior police inspector, Pant Nagar police station, said, “The police and flying squad brought them to the police station and after taking their details, the Income Tax Department was informed about the seizure and the amount was handed over to the department.” According to preliminary investigation, this money has no connection with the upcoming elections. The official said that the Income Tax Department is conducting further investigation.
