Mumbai Metro : Good news for Mumbaikars! Metro runs under Mithi river, when will the journey start?

Mumbai Metro: Good news for Mumbaikars, the Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk Metro will be operational soon. Trials have begun on this route, which passes under the Mithi river.

There is good news for Mumbaikars. The work of the Colaba – Bandra – Seepz Metro 3 line is in the final stage. The first test of the metro was successfully completed on the 9.77 km long section of this line from Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli).

Notably, during this test, the metro train ran under the Mithi river for the first time. This has become a historic moment. Now, in the next few months, system, signal and safety tests will be conducted and then the metro journey will start.

When will the metro open for passengers?

The Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk metro line is likely to be opened for passengers by the end of the financial year 2024-25 (March 2025). After this phase is started, this metro can be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

6 major stations

There will be 6 major stations on this metro line. These will include Dharavi, Shitla Devi Mandir, Dadar Metro, Siddhivinayak, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk stations.

Metro ticket prices

The ticket price for Mumbai Metro Line 3 will be a minimum of Rs 10 and a maximum of Rs 50.

Aarey-BKC Metro line receives less response than expected

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is constructing the 32.5 km long ‘Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3’. The 12.69 km long section between Aarey-BKC of this line was put into service in October 2024. However, this metro is not getting the expected number of passengers.

Initially, it was estimated that 4 lakh passengers would travel on this metro line daily. However, in reality, only 20 thousand passengers are using this metro. Therefore, increasing the number of passengers on the Metro 3 line is becoming a big challenge for MMRC.

Meanwhile, after the completion of Mumbai Metro Line 3, a fast, safe and convenient travel option will be available for passengers.
