Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan has resigned from the party. Chavan was said to be angry with the party for the past few days and there are reports that he may join BJP.

Before the Lok Sabha elections, Congress has suffered a big setback in Maharashtra. Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan has resigned from the party. According to the information received, Chavan met Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar on Wednesday afternoon. During this, there was a long closed door conversation between the two leaders, after which he resigned from the membership of Congress.

Giving information about his resignation from Congress, Ashok Chavan issued a statement saying, ‘I submit my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with effect from the afternoon of 12/02/2024.’

BJP can send Chavan to Rajya Sabha

Ashok Chavan is Congress MLA from Nanded. He was said to be angry with the party for the past several days and there are reports that he may join BJP. According to sources, BJP can give Rajya Sabha seat to Chavan. Sources also said that 10 to 12 MLAs are also in touch with Chavan and will change sides in the coming time.

According to sources, after this meeting of Ashok Chavan, a stir has started in BJP also. According to the information, senior party leader Ashish Shelar and minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha are present in the BJP office. Devendra Fadnavis can reach BJP office within some time.

This is the second major setback for Congress in Maharashtra in recent times. Before Chavan, former state minister Baba Siddiqui had also broken his 48-year-old association with Congress. He left Congress on Saturday and joined Ajit Pawar-led NCP. Before that, former Union Minister Milind Deora, who was the President of Maharashtra Congress, had also left the Congress.
