Maharashtra Budget 2024: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday announced the ‘Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Behan’ scheme for women ahead of the assembly elections. Under this scheme, all women aged 21 to 60 years in the state will be given Rs 1,500 per month. This scheme will come into effect from July 2024. Apart from this, the government has also made other announcements for women and daughters in the budget.
Girls will get Rs 1500 per month from July
Pawar said in his budget speech that we are announcing Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Behan (Chief Minister My Dear Sister). Under this, all women will be given Rs 1500 per month. The scheme will come into effect from July 2024. He also said that a budgetary allocation of Rs 46,000 crore will be made annually for this scheme.
However, this is not the first attempt by the Mahayuti government to help women financially. In March 2024, the state government unveiled a policy focused on eight objectives, including health, education, eliminating gender-based violence and encouraging women’s political participation. In 2023-24, the government also launched the Le Ladki Yojana. It aims to provide financial assistance to families with girl children and prevent girl children from dropping out of school. Budget 2023-24 also includes a 50 per cent discount for women in state transport buses.
3 cylinders free every year, 44 lakh farmers’ bills waived
Apart from this, the Eknath Shinde-led government has announced free cylinders for women in the budget. Under the CM Anna Chhatra Yojana, the government will give 3 free cylinders to families with 5 members every year. At the same time, the government has announced in the budget that the electricity bill arrears of about 44 lakh farmers of the state will be waived. The government also announced financial assistance in cases of deaths due to animal attacks. “The government has increased financial assistance in deaths due to animal attacks, now the family members will get Rs 25 lakh instead of Rs 20 lakh.
