Train Ticket refund process: Are you wondering how to get a full refund for a cancelled or delayed train? IRCTC e-ticket holders automatically get a refund in case of train cancellation, but in case of a delay of more than three hours, it is necessary to file a TDR for refund.

Indian Railways: When a scheduled train is cancelled, e-ticket holders get an automatic refund without sending a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) or visiting the counter. If the delay exceeds three hours, passengers who choose not to travel have to file a TDR to get a full refund. Counter tickets have to be cancelled at the reservation counter.

How to file TDR for delayed or cancelled trains?

  • Log in and go to TDR: Visit IRCTC website or app, log in and go to ‘My Account’ in ‘My Transactions’. Select ‘File TDR’.
  • Fill in the details: Provide PNR, train number and captcha, then confirm the cancellation conditions.
  • Submit OTP: Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
  • Check and confirm: Check PNR details, cancel ticket and check refund. A confirmation message will appear after this.
