Pension Scheme: There is good news for the elderly of Delhi. The Delhi government has restored their pension. The Union Territory’s Finance Minister Atishi gave information about this on Friday. She said that the elderly in Delhi have now started getting pension. She also accused the Central Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of not contributing to the pension for the last five months.

Pension was pending for 5 months
Atishi said that out of the one lakh beneficiaries of the city, 90 thousand had received their dues on Thursday itself. The rest will be paid. The minister claimed, ‘Out of the pension given under this scheme, the Delhi government pays Rs 2,200 and the central government pays Rs 300. The pension was pending for the last five months because the BJP government at the Center was not making its contribution.’

She said that the terms of the pension scheme are such that despite the central government’s low contribution to the pension, the pension of one lakh beneficiaries remained stuck due to pending payments from the center.

    Pension being deposited in accounts
Atishi wrote on social media, ‘News that will make the elderly of Delhi happy. For the last five months, the BJP government at the center had stopped the old age pension of 1 lakh elderly people of Delhi. The elderly were very upset.’ She said, ‘I am happy to tell that after a lot of struggle, the (Arvind) Kejriwal-led government has started the stopped pension of the elderly. The pension of the last five months is being deposited in the bank accounts of the elderly.’

How much old age pension is given in Delhi
This pension is for those elderly people above 60 years of age whose annual family income is less than one lakh rupees. Under this scheme, two thousand rupees per month are given to the beneficiaries aged 60 to 69 years. Beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Minority community are given an additional 500 rupees per month. Under the scheme, elderly people above 70 years of age get two and a half thousand rupees per month.
