Fallout is a post-apocalyptic series releasing on Prime Video. It is directed by Jonathan Nolan, who has been associated with brother Christopher Nolan’s films. Jonathan has imagined a world after a nuclear attack in the web series which is based on a very famous game of the same name. Fallout impresses with its story and production design.

Famous Hollywood cinema director Christopher Nolan won the first Oscar Award of his career by making a biopic of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb.

Now his younger brother Jonathan Nolan has brought the live action series Fallout, based on the fictional story of the world being destroyed in nuclear attacks during the Second World War, which is a screen adaptation of a very popular video game series.

Fallout releases on April 11 on Prime Video. He has created this series with his wife Lisa Joy. Fallout is an entertaining look at the social, economic, and cultural changes that occur after the world is destroyed by a nuclear attack. However, watching this may remind you of many dystopian films and series.

What is the story of Fallout?
The story of the series is set in the period 219 years after the Second World War. The world is divided into two parts, above and below the earth. Those living below are called Vault Dwellers. This is a huge underground society, which has different numbers of vaults. The vaults were built by the Vault-Tech company before the war as part of preparations for the future.

Each vault has its own administrative system. This society is technologically advanced, disciplined and developed. Weak in fighting, the people of this society protect themselves from those living on the surface. Due to the effect of radiation on the earth, people have diseases, deformities and different types of creatures have been born.

To avoid all troubles, these people keep their bunkers closed, so that the ‘wild’ (wasteland) people living above the ground do not reach them. But one day it happens.

Following a conspiracy, a group of Wasteland attacks Vault Number 33 and kidnaps Overseer (Chief) Hank McLean. Hank’s daughter Lucy McLean travels to the surface (Wasteland) to find her father, where she encounters the real world. The series progresses based on Lucy’s experiences, with the addition of some more characters.

How is the screenplay and production?
Jonathan and Lisa have created a completely different world based on the game, which sounds interesting. The opening scenes of the series show the nuclear attacks that took place in America during the Second World War. However, this is symbolic only. After this the story directly reaches the period after 219 years.

Lucy’s theft reaches the surface, i.e. the Wasteland, as leaving the vault is an unforgivable crime. Wasteland is as doomed as the name suggests. The land has become a desert. However, traces of the devastation that occurred 200 years ago still remain. There are skeletons everywhere amidst the dust and dirt in the broken buildings. The remains of the bodies of children and adults sitting at the dinner table show that no one had time to move during the attack.

Seeing all this, Lucy moves ahead. The Vault Dwellers are called Smoothskins, and the people of the Wasteland don’t like them. There is another group in Westland, which is powerful and scientifically developed. These are fighters, called the Brotherhood of Steel.

A human standing inside these technologically developed giant metal protective shields operates them. This society wants to take control of Wasteland. Maximus is the squire of this brotherhood.

The ghouls have become a different kind of species, who are neither human nor able to become devils. After some chemical reaction in the body of some survivors of nuclear attack, their flesh has gradually reduced, due to which they have started looking like skeletons.

This species is gradually on the verge of becoming zombies. However, there is a vile preventing access there. Hollywood star Cooper Howard has become Ghoul, who is a great marksman due to his role as a cowboy before the Apocalypse.

As the series progresses, all these characters meet each other in different circumstances and become part of the battles in the Wasteland. Human nature is such a thing that it shows its colors even in the worst situations. The world has been destroyed, but the obsession with ruling what remains and the gap between rich and poor give the story of Fallout a thrill.
