DDA's housing scheme flopped badly! Till now the authority has been able to sell only one flat out of 4

Delhi Development Authority’s schemes have been failing for the last several years. DDA has built thousands of flats in Delhi but people are not showing much interest in them. The reason for this is that they are in remote areas and there is lack of facilities there. It is also very difficult to reach there.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had launched three housing schemes on 6 January. The aim of these schemes was to provide houses to the weaker sections. But people have not shown much enthusiasm in these. According to the report of Indian Express, DDA had put a total of 9,887 flats for sale under the three schemes but only 2,628 flats have been sold so far.

This is only 26.5% of the total flats. For the last several years, DDA’s schemes have been continuously failing. The reason for this is that the size of DDA flats is very small. Also, there is a lack of facilities in them. These flats have been built in such places where the transport system is not very good.

Under the Sabka Ghar housing scheme, DDA had put 9,079 flats for sale in Narela, Loknayak Puram and Sirsapur. 25% discount was also given to women, war widows, autorickshaw drivers and street vendors.

Out of these flats, 769 were HIG and MIG while the rest were EWS and LIG flats. A senior DDA official said that only 2,440 flats could be sold under this scheme. Out of these, 2,000 flats are of EWS category. Meaning, mostly cheap flats have been sold.

Approval to Metro

Initially, DDA had put up 7,579 flats for sale under this scheme. But according to a circular dated January 24, seeing the huge demand for cheap flats, DDA added 500 additional EWS flats to this scheme. After this, on February 10, DDA added 1,000 more flats to this scheme.

That is, when the demand was high, DDA put up more flats for sale. The official said that since the approval of the metro, there has been a rapid increase in the sale of flats in Narela. On December 6 last year, the Union Cabinet had approved the Rithala-Narela-Natthupur (Kundli) corridor under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro.

Under the second scheme, Shramik Awas Yojana, DDA offered 700 EWS flats to construction workers in Narela at a discount of 25%. A senior DDA official said that only 105 flats have been sold under this scheme. The last date for selling flats under Sabka Ghar Awas Yojana and Shramik Awas Yojana is March 31.

Under the Special Housing Scheme 2025 e-auction, DDA had put up 108 flats of LIG, MIG and HIG categories for sale in areas like Vasant Kunj, Dwarka and Rohini. A DDA official said that so far 83 of these flats have been sold. This scheme is running through online auction.
