Bank Five Day Working News Update: All India Bank Officers Confederation General Secretary Rupam Roy says that at present there is no indication from the government regarding the implementation of the five-day working week.
Bank Employees News: There is big news for bank employees. According to the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), bank employees are unlikely to get a 5-day working week in December and the officers’ organization may soon start a movement in this regard. It was told that so far there has been no indication from the government to implement a 5-day working week for bank employees.
Rupam Roy, general secretary of the All India Bank Officers Confederation, said, “We are in the process of finalising a plan to launch the agitation soon. We have also invited our partner unions/associations of UFBU to join the agitation. So far, there is no indication from the government about implementing a five-day working week.”
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) is an umbrella body of nine bank unions – AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO.
When asked about industrialists such as Infosys chairman N R Narayana Murthy and Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal advocating for increased working hours, Roy replied, “These are personal opinions. At a time when global trends are moving towards reducing working hours and shortening the work week, there are no evidence-based studies to support such claims. I don’t think the government will be influenced by these individual views.”
What is the demand of bank employees?
Bank employees have been demanding a 5-day working week (5 days working in a week) and for a long time this proposal is pending for final approval from the Finance Ministry. An agreement has already been finalized between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and employee unions in this regard.
Bank employee unions have assured that the 5-day working week will not reduce customer service hours. To ensure this, the timings will also be revised to increase the working hours by about 40 minutes.
Currently, bank branches remain closed on second and fourth Saturdays. Bank unions have been demanding a holiday on all Saturdays and Sundays since 2015. Under the 10th bilateral agreement signed in 2015, the RBI and the government agreed with the IBA and declared second and fourth Saturdays as holidays.
