Railways usually opens train ticket booking three months before the train departure date. On the other hand, booking of Tatkal quota tickets opens one day before the scheduled journey of the train. If you book a general ticket at the beginning, you get a seat. On the other hand, the number of tickets in Tatkal tickets is very limited. In such a situation, the chances of booking getting confirmed are very less.

You must have booked general, waiting or Tatkal tickets from IRCTC’s platform. All these tickets are booked before the chart is prepared. How to book a current ticket

Current tickets are booked on the day of travel, so certain things must be kept in mind. You can book current tickets through this process.

  • Click on the ‘Train’ button in the IRCTC app and type your destination and source station.
  • Departure date should be the same day on which you are booking the ticket.
  • After selecting the source, destination and departure date, click on the ‘Train Search’ button.
  • Now you will see the list of all available trains on that route on the screen.
  • Click on the ticket category of your choice – like CC, EC, 3AC, 3E, etc.
  • If a current ticket is available for that train, it will appear as ‘CURR_AVBL-‘
  • In this facility, there is higher possibility of getting a current ticket on less busy routes.
  • At the same time, the chances of booking current tickets on routes with high demand are less.
