Why does an earthquake occur?

Let us tell you that there are 4 major layers on the earth, which are called outer core, inner core, crust and mantle. These plates keep rotating under the earth. Their collision causes vibrations under the earth and when these plates slip, earthquake tremors are felt. This is the place where the earthquake has more impact and if the intensity of the earthquake is high, then the tremors are felt far away.

How is the intensity of an earthquake measured?

The intensity of an earthquake is detected through the Richter scale. Earthquake tremors are measured from 1 to 9 on the Richter scale. During an earthquake, energy waves emerge from under the earth which are measured through the Richter scale. This tells how much was the intensity of the earthquake and where was its epicenter.
