Bombay High Court directs to remove Salman Khan’s name from the petition

A division bench of Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Shyam Chandak directed Anuj Thapan’s mother and petitioner Rita Devi to remove Salman Khan’s name from the petition. The court said – his name should be removed. The petitioner wants permission to amend the petition to remove the name of the four respondents because there is no argument against them. And no relief has been sought.

In her petition, the accused’s mother Rita Devi has asked the High Court to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate her son’s death. The petition states that the police physically assaulted and tortured Anuj Thapan in custody. Rita Devi had made Salman Khan a respondent in her petition. The High Court said on Monday that no allegation or relief has been sought against Salman Khan in the petition. Therefore, there is no point in keeping Salman Khan included in the petition.

The petitioner’s lawyer said that we are not making any demand against Salman Khan at the moment. He said that the magistrate had issued summons to his client and called him to record the statement on 23 May 2024. But the copy of the summons was received on 24 May. On this, the bench asked the magistrate to issue summons to the petitioner from a new CIA and ensure that the summons reach the petitioner on time. The bench has now scheduled the hearing on the petition after 6 weeks.
