In Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai, two people died after falling into a sewer while the condition of one person is critical. After three people fell into the sewer, people tried to save them and even pulled them out but two people could not be saved. This sewer is 15 feet below the public toilet built by a contractor.
Two people died while one person was seriously injured after falling into a sewer in Malad area of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. Two people, including a minor boy, lost their lives after falling into a 15-feet deep underground sewer chamber in Malad in north Mumbai, an official said.
The officer said that the incident took place at gate number 8 on Abdul Hameed Road in Ambujwadi at around 5.30 pm. He said, ‘Three people fell into the underground drain chamber, which is 15 feet below the public toilet built by a contractor. Passersby pulled him out and took him to the nearest hospital but by then he had died.
He said that the deceased have been identified as Suraj Kevat and Bikash Kevat, while the condition of Ramlagan Kevat is critical. Senior inspector Chimaji Adhav of Malvani police station said, “All three are laborers and were contracted to clean sewer drains. We have registered an accidental death report based on preliminary information and are investigating further.”
Earlier in the month of December last year, a similar case had come to light in Uttar Pradesh. Two brothers had died after falling into the sewer in Hamirpur. Two brothers fell into the sewer tank when the lid of the sewer tank broke. Both of them died due to drowning in the tank. People tried to save him but by the time they took him to the hospital, he had died. One of the deceased brothers was a constable, while the other was a Gram Panchayat member.
