Water cut Mumbai: Problems of Mumbai residents may increase today! BMC announces 15 percent water cut

According to BMC, the additional cut of water supply across the city has been done due to shortage of water at Pais Dam in Thane district.

The troubles of Mumbaikars may increase today. In fact, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced 15 percent water cut on Tuesday. According to BMC, the additional cut of water supply across the city has been done due to shortage of water at Pais Dam in Thane district. BMC is currently reducing water supply by five percent due to pre-monsoon maintenance work.

The BMC said in a statement issued on Monday that the water supply will be restored after the dam, located about 60 km from Mumbai metropolis, receives water from the Bhatsa reservoir. A release issued by BMC said, the rubber bladder of one of the 32 gates of Pais Dam got damaged, due to which water leaked from it on December 16. To repair the bladder, the water level of the dam had to be reduced by 31 metres, for which the water supply from Bhatsa reservoir had to be controlled.

The rubber bladder has been repaired but the dam level is not high enough to draw water to Mumbai via the treatment plant at Panjrapole, the statement said. Water has been released from Bhatsa reservoir, since it is 48 kilometers away from Pais Dam, so it may take time for the water to reach and bring it to adequate level.

Five percent water cut from March 15 to April 24:

Let us tell you, BMC had last week announced five percent water cut in Mumbai from March 15 to April 24 due to the ongoing cleaning at the water treatment plant in Bhandup. Due to low water level of the lake, BMC had earlier proposed to cut water by ten percent. But it was not implemented after the state government assured to overcome the water shortage from its reserved water reserves.
